Amatista Cruise

Amatista: A Complete Amazon Experience 7 Days

Enjoy a seven-day Expedition from Iquitos as we cruise the Marañón River and venture into the area’s wild animal reserves. Keep lookout for pink dolphins, monkeys, sloths, and exotic birds, hike the rainforest trails and canopy walkways, and immerse yourself in the local culture during shaman ceremonies and village visits. Enjoy a seamless blend of nature, culture, and adventure.

Welcome to your Amazon experience! After your arrival at the airport, you will be escorted on a tour of Iquitos to see the sights and sounds of one of Peru’s largest cities. You will then be transferred to Nauta, the historic port, and embark your vessel to meet your crew. After introductions and a welcome orientation, you will have a lovely lunch to fuel your journey and begin sailing the Amazon River. As you travel, your expert naturalist will present your itinerary for the journey ahead. In the afternoon, you will board your first boat excursion, where your naturalist will look for wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, caimans, and hopefully, you will catch a glimpse of the pink dolphin, although they are shy and elusive. Sail back to your vessel for dinner and relax for a new day of exploration and adventure tomorrow!

You will begin the day enjoying a scenic picnic breakfast along the banks of the Yamayacu River in the protected Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, which is known for the sighting of pink dolphins. You will have the opportunity to paddle local canoes through stunning water areas or take a swim in the river. After paddling, you will re-board to enjoy lunch and a short rest before an inspiring talk on how Amazonian thinking works. Visit with a shaman from the San Regis community, where you will learn about their ancestral rituals, medicinal plants, and spirituality working with the rainforest. You will then participate in a tree-planting ceremony in support of conservation. Finally, settle in for relaxing live music and dinner on board.

Mornings in the Amazon are kind of magical with all the species of wildlife and insects. We couldn’t think of a better way to start the day than with a pre-breakfast boat trip to Iquitos Brook, a typical area to spot endemic species. Upon our return, we will partake in a buffet breakfast on the boat. After breakfast, we will take a walk in the jungle, which leads to a series of hanging bridges where we will enjoy a canopy walk and see the forest from above. Upon return to the ship, we will have lunch and have free time to relax before we take a boat expedition to the Shiriyacu Stream for fishing for piranhas using traditional methods, while keeping an eye out for pink dolphins. The day will end with drinks, live music, and dinner on board.

Head out by boat early in the morning to explore a popular birdwatching area and wildlife spotting area. After breakfast, enjoy a refreshing cocktail prepared by the bartender in the peaceful setting of the Amazon.
Then head out to a beautiful area called Bellon, where you can see the Amazon having enormous biodiversity, including the giant Victoria Regia water lilies, which are the largest aquatic plants in the world. Return to the ship for a relaxing break, followed by an afternoon excursion to discover new trails with new plants and endemic Amazonian species.
As you can enjoy the sunset over the forest and rivers, listen to the sounds of the jungle at peace. Finish the evening back on board with live music and a replenishing dinner.

We will set off at dawn with skiffs on a morning trip on the Ucayali River where the trees are home to colorful Amazonian birds; what a song of life in the rainforest!
Then return to the Amatista for breakfast, where a buffet of Peruvian specialties awaits to try, along with fresh-baked goods and exotic fruit juices that can only be found in the jungle!
After breakfast, we take another trip on the Yarapa River, so keep your eyes open for toucans, parrots, macaws, iguanas, sloths, monkeys, etc. In their natural habitat. When we return to the Amatista, you’ll join for lunch, followed by relaxation, along with a talk about Amazonian culture. In the afternoon, we’ll head out to the town of Vista Alegre and visit the local community to learn about their traditions through our interpreters. To close out a fun day, we’ll relax and enjoy live music with dinner onboard.

Following breakfast, the guides will get you acquainted with the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, one of the most incredible jungle regions in the world, featuring forests that are flooded nearly all year long.
Afterward, take a boat ride to the Marañón and Ucayali River, where the Amazon is born. On route, continue to explore the Piraña Cocha region and search for wildlife.
Once back on board, enjoy lunch and a respite before heading out for an afternoon walk in the jungle trails of the Casuala area, featuring colorful poison dart frogs, exotic wildlife, and giant “Avatar”-like trees. You will also have the chance to support local community members by purchasing handmade crafts from local women artisans.
As the day comes to an end, enjoy a spectacular evening Amazon sunset before indulging in a dinner with live music entertainment, and enjoy a final presentation from the crew.

Begin the morning with a leisurely breakfast on board the vessel before setting off towards Nauta, the second-largest city in the area. You will stroll through a lively local market where you will meet local people and experience some traditional foods, crafts, and regional specialties – a real experience of daily Amazonian life.
After returning to our ship, we will disembark for a visit to Amazon Forever Bio Park, which is also known as the Manatee Rescue Center. At the center, biologist and volunteers care for endangered manatees and other rescued animals and prepare them for their release to the wild. Jungle Experiences is a proud supporter of the project, and we encourage guests to support this worthwhile conservation work.
