Zafiro Cruise

The Zafiro Experience: 4-Day Low Water Season

Discover the essence of the Peruvian Amazon on a captivating four-day expedition through the renowned Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, famously called the “Jungle of Mirrors” for the stunning reflections along its dark, glassy rivers. Cruise the Marañón, Ucayali, and Amazon Rivers while encountering extraordinary wildlife, from pink river dolphins and vibrant birdlife to caimans and tarantulas. Connect with local communities, trek through verdant rainforest trails, and admire unforgettable sunrises and sunsets over the canopy. This journey seamlessly combines wildlife discovery, cultural interaction, and authentic Amazonian cuisine in one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet.

Your adventure begins in Iquitos with a transfer to the port town of Nauta, gateway to the reserve. During the scenic drive, enjoy a boxed lunch while observing the shifting Amazonian landscape. Once aboard, settle into your suite and take in sweeping river views from the observation deck as the vessel navigates the Marañón River. Naturalist guides provide an introduction to the region’s geography, wildlife, and upcoming experiences.
After dusk, head out by skiff to explore Nauta Caño. As the rainforest awakens at night, search for glowing caiman eyes along the banks, listen for nocturnal frogs, and perhaps spot tarantulas and other elusive species. Return onboard for a dinner inspired by regional flavors, your first taste of Amazonian hospitality.

Start early with a sunrise excursion along the Amazon River, when wildlife is most active and riverside villages begin their daily routines. Watch fishermen at work and children commuting to school by boat. After breakfast, continue along the blackwater Yarapa River, an excellent area to observe monkeys, sloths, and colorful bird species high in the treetops.
Later, visit the community of Paranapura for a culturally enriching experience. Learn about traditions, daily life, and local customs with your guide facilitating meaningful exchanges. In the evening, embark on another nighttime outing to search for caimans, bats, frogs, and other nocturnal wildlife. Conclude the day with live music onboard amid the calming sounds of the rainforest.

Cruise the Yarapa River once more at dawn, discovering new scenery illuminated by soft morning light. After breakfast, disembark in the Yucuruchi sector of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve for a guided rainforest walk. Observe towering ceiba trees, medicinal plants, and diverse wildlife while learning about the ecosystem’s delicate balance and the effects of seasonal flooding.
In the afternoon, set out along the Amazon River to search for the iconic pink and gray river dolphins. Watch them surface gracefully against shimmering waters before enjoying a brilliant Amazon sunset reflected across the river. Celebrate your final evening onboard with live music and a farewell dinner.

After breakfast, disembark in Nauta and travel back toward Iquitos. Along the way, visit the Amazon Forever Bio Park, widely known as the Manatee Rescue Center. Here, specialists rehabilitate endangered Amazonian manatees and other rescued wildlife prior to their release. Gain insight into conservation programs and environmental education efforts designed to protect this fragile ecosystem.
Following this meaningful visit, transfer to the airport for your departure, concluding your immersive Amazon adventure.
