Aria Amazon: 4-Night Low Water Season

Embark on an unforgettable 4-night expedition aboard the Aria Amazon, exploring the wonders of the Peruvian Amazon during the low water season (June to October). This itinerary immerses you in the rich biodiversity and local culture, from wildlife spotting and fishing to village visits and conservation efforts, offering an unparalleled journey into the heart of the Amazon.

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport upon your noon flight by the Aria Amazon crew. You’ll then board a private transfer to downtown Iquitos for a panoramic city tour and a welcome lunch, immersing yourself in the local culture before heading to Nauta port for embarkation. Once aboard, settle into your generously sized suite as you prepare for one of life’s greatest adventures. The evening includes an introduction to the naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, followed by the first of many Amazonian culinary experiences crafted by Aria Amazon’s renowned consulting chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.

Get an early start to the day with a birdwatching excursion along the Marañón River. This early morning activity provides an excellent opportunity to spot various avian species in their natural habitat as the rainforest awakens. After breakfast, you will explore the black waters of the Yanayacu Pucate River by skiff, with a possibility of seeing sloths, great egrets, parrots, and Taricaya turtles. You will also visit an Amazonian village to witness a demonstration of Aguaje palm harvesting, gaining insight into local customs and sustainable practices. After lunch, test your angling skills by fishing for Amazonia’s notoriously ferocious piranhas. As night falls, after dinner, head out on skiffs again to search for nocturnal wildlife along the Yanayacu Pucate River.

The rewards of our early start today are plentiful, beginning with a picnic lunch orchestrated to the sounds of the jungle symphony, offering a truly immersive dining experience in the heart of the Amazon. You’ll go fishing along the black waters of the Samiria River, a pristine area known for its diverse aquatic life. Within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your adventure: embark on a jungle walk to discover the unique flora and fauna, go canoeing or kayaking through serene waterways, or even swim in the refreshing waters of the reserve. Later, as the day winds down, cruise along the Ucayali River and enjoy the stunning sunset, painting the sky with vibrant colors.

After breakfast, embark on a morning skiff excursion on the Marañón River. Be sure to bring your binoculars, as this is an excellent opportunity to spot sloths and various bird species along this majestic river, renowned for its biodiversity. In the afternoon, you’ll sail along the river to Puerto Prado, an indigenous village. Here, you’ll have the unique opportunity to see giant water lilies, an iconic plant of the Amazon, and learn about the local community and their traditions.

In the morning, take a guided visit to the local market in Nauta town and marvel at the vibrant regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon, gaining insight into local commerce and culture. Return to Aria Amazon for breakfast before disembarkation. En route to the airport, you’ll visit the Manatee Rescue Center, a vital facility where orphaned Amazonian manatees rehabilitate before they are released back into the wild, showcasing important conservation efforts in the region.
