Amatista Cruise

Amatista: 4-Day Experience, starting on Wednesday

Embark on a 4-day Amazon journey from Iquitos, cruising the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers. Spot pink dolphins, monkeys, sloths, and exotic birds, explore Pacaya Samiria Reserve and Casuala jungle trails, and experience local culture in Vista Alegre. Enjoy canoe rides, jungle walks, live music, and gourmet dining onboard, with visits to conservation projects including the Manatee Rescue Center.

Once you arrive at the airport, you can start your Amazon journey by taking a tour of colorful Iquitos and sightseeing its typical sights. You will depart for the historic river port of Nauta and board the Amatista, where you will find comfortable cabins. During the ship journey along the Marañón River, naturalist guides will orient you to the itinerary as well as the flora and fauna of the Amazon. You will enjoy a welcome lunch including regional dishes and vegetarian options. In the evening, you will take a night boat trip to Nauta Caño to observe nocturnal wildlife such as alligators, bats, frogs, and tarantulas. You will return to the ship for dinner and sleep, ready for the next day’s activities.

We will set off at dawn with skiffs on a morning trip on the Ucayali River where the trees are home to colorful Amazonian birds; what a song of life in the rainforest!
Then return to the Amatista for breakfast, where a buffet of Peruvian specialties awaits to try, along with fresh-baked goods and exotic fruit juices that can only be found in the jungle!
After breakfast, we take another trip on the Yarapa River, so keep your eyes open for toucans, parrots, macaws, iguanas, sloths, monkeys, etc. In their natural habitat. When we return to the Amatista, you’ll join for lunch, followed by relaxation, along with a talk about Amazonian culture. In the afternoon, we’ll head out to the town of Vista Alegre and visit the local community to learn about their traditions through our interpreters. To close out a fun day, we’ll relax and enjoy live music with dinner onboard.

Following breakfast, the guides will get you acquainted with the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, one of the most incredible jungle regions in the world, featuring forests that are flooded nearly all year long.
Afterward, take a boat ride to the Marañón and Ucayali River, where the Amazon is born. On route, continue to explore the Piraña Cocha region and search for wildlife.
Once back on board, enjoy lunch and a respite before heading out for an afternoon walk in the jungle trails of the Casuala area, featuring colorful poison dart frogs, exotic wildlife, and giant “Avatar”-like trees. You will also have the chance to support local community members by purchasing handmade crafts from local women artisans.
As the day comes to an end, enjoy a spectacular evening Amazon sunset before indulging in a dinner with live music entertainment, and enjoy a final presentation from the crew.

Begin the morning with a leisurely breakfast on board the vessel before setting off towards Nauta, the second-largest city in the area. You will stroll through a lively local market where you will meet local people and experience some traditional foods, crafts, and regional specialties – a real experience of daily Amazonian life.
After returning to our ship, we will disembark for a visit to Amazon Forever Bio Park, which is also known as the Manatee Rescue Center. At the center, biologist and volunteers care for endangered manatees and other rescued animals and prepare them for their release to the wild. Jungle Experiences is a proud supporter of the project, and we encourage guests to support this worthwhile conservation work.
