Pure Amazon Cruise

Pure Amazon: Low water season 8D/7N Experience, starting on Nauta

The Amazon Basin extends across 60 percent of Peru, which attracts wildlife enthusiasts to explore its vast territory. Bird watchers and wildlife lovers enter the habitat of rare and iconic species from June to November during the dry season, while they get to know the river people who live along the rivers. The natural environment stays active with wildlife throughout your entire visit because it supports a diverse range of animals, which includes sloths, monkeys, caimans, turtles, and pink river dolphins.

The journey starts in Iquitos, which stands as the biggest city in the world, only accessible through air travel and water routes. The journey from this point requires a one-hour and forty-five-minute drive to reach Nauta, which lies along the Marañon River and presents a stunning postcard-like view. Board the Pure Amazon from here. The ship will begin its welcome briefing right after passengers settle in, while the onboard chefs prepare a delicious meal for them. The vessel moves toward Yuracocha with steady motion as darkness descends upon the landscape.

At sunrise, join an optional birdwatching excursion by skiff at Lake Clavero, a peaceful oxbow lake bursting with biodiversity. The morning meal leads to a journey toward a nearby village where visitors can discover local people and understand their farming practices and their methods for dealing with flood seasons. The ribereños display expert canoe skills as they move through the water in their dugout vessels. The heat will disappear, so you can take a swim or go kayaking in a double kayak. In the evening, enjoy a recap in the Explorer’s Lounge before sitting down to a gourmet dinner. The ship moves upriver toward Yucuruchi during your sleep.

The sunrise birding excursion serves as the perfect choice for people who want to see wildlife. The Yucuruchi region provides visitors with chances to capture images of scarlet macaws and pink river dolphins along the Ucayali River, while Victoria amazonica leaves span up to 10 feet in diameter. Your guide will show you different plants and animals during the morning skiff excursion. The afternoon activities include piranha and catfish fishing on the Yarapa River with catch-and-release rules. The night safari begins at dusk when you board a skiff to observe the shift from day to night while listening to the rainforest sounds and searching for animals that appear after dark. The Pure Amazon will continue its journey northward after dinner to explore areas of uninhabited tributaries.

The Pure Amazon reaches its only river crossing during this voyage by entering the Amazon River main channel. After breakfast, take a skiff excursion along the Yanayacu Yacapana River, where you’ll learn about unique plants and the animals that depend on them. Travel to the Tahuayo River, which moves through the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Regional Conservation Area, where various animal species exist. Watch out for numerous birds and monkeys before you start your guided walk through the jungle. The evening concludes with a summary followed by a casual dinner served onboard.

Start your day with a chill breakfast as Pure Amazon cruises back into Nauta. The local market produces a vital experience because it presents an extensive assortment of Amazonian fruits and river fish, and authentic handcrafted items. Use the last moments of your day to take another boat ride through Nauta’s stunning natural landscap,e which hides numerous wildlife species.

Early morning light brings the chance to set out from Nauta Caño, a lush waterway famous for black-collars hawk, tanagers, and yellow-tailed oropendolas that are super abundant there. After eating breakfast, you should visit Yanayacu Pucate because this tributary within Pacaya-Samiria Reserve shows exceptional beauty while supporting monkey populations and tamarins, and iguanas. People can choose between fishing for piranhas or other species while they are at the river. Kayakers and boaters choose to explore Yanayaquillo during the afternoon because its wildlife becomes more active at night with the help of spotlights, which reveal caimans and nocturnal monkeys, and insects. The evening ends with dinner followed by stargazing when the weather stays clear.

Begin your day early to discover Nueva Arica’s distinctive riverside environment, which reveals its true character through seasonal water level changes. The water activities offer complete relaxation through two options: swimming and rowing across the peaceful blackwater. The jungle path leads to the Samirias River during afternoon hours, where the water mirrors the forest and sky in perfect clarity. Your guide will show you sloths and monkeys and unique birds, and small animals like frogs and insects during your walk. Before you leave, make sure to enjoy a final meal on the ship.

Start the day after breakfast in Nauta by visiting the Formabiap educational project. Students at the Formabiap project study teaching methods that enable them to instruct in Spanish, along with their native languages, which number around 200 students. The event begins with musical greetings to all visitors, who then learn about longhouse building techniques before participating in a spiritual cleansing ceremony, which an elder leads, and finally attending a presentation about medicinal plants. Your trip will end with a transfer that leads you back to your hotel in Iquitos or the airport.
