Aria Amazon: 3-Night High Water Season

Embark on an unforgettable 3-night expedition aboard the Aria Amazon, exploring the wonders of the Peruvian Amazon during the high water season (November to May). This itinerary immerses you in the rich biodiversity and local culture, from birdwatching and wildlife spotting to visits to riverside villages and encounters with fascinating Amazonian fauna.

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Iquitos International Airport around noon by the Aria Amazon crew. Following a private transfer to downtown Iquitos, you’ll enjoy a panoramic city tour and a welcome lunch, immersing yourself in the local atmosphere before heading to Nauta port for embarkation. As you step aboard the Aria Amazon, you’ll settle into your generously sized suite, commencing one of life’s greatest adventures. The evening includes an introduction to the naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, followed by an exquisite dinner featuring Amazonian cuisine created by Aria Amazon’s renowned consulting chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.

The day starts early with a majestic Amazon River birdwatching excursion, taking advantage of the prime morning hours to spot various avian species in their natural habitat. After breakfast, you’ll venture out for a skiff excursion along the Yanayacu Yacapana River, a tributary of the Amazon River, in search of abundant wildlife including parrots, hawks, monkeys, and sloths. As the day progresses into the evening, you’ll embark on another wildlife excursion, this time exploring the black waters of the Nauta Caño River. The night will culminate with an extraordinary stargazing experience under the vast Amazonian sky.

Today’s adventures bring you near the main entrance of Pacaya Samiria National Reserve10. You’ll cruise along Yanayacu Pucate in the comfort of private skiffs, where you’ll have the opportunity to fish for Amazonia’s notoriously ferocious piranhas, while also keeping an eye out for other exotic wildlife in the surroundings. The experience is enriched with a visit to an Amazon village, allowing you to interact with native “riberenos” (people of the river) and witness a demonstration of Aguaje palm harvesting, an integral part of their subsistence. You’ll also have the chance to canoe and swim in the area’s enchanting black waters, keeping a lookout for the legendary pink dolphins. After lunch, you’ll delve into a jungle walk in Casual’s Forest, searching for fascinating flora and fauna, including medicinal trees, insects, and poison dart frogs.

The morning begins with a guided visit to the local market in Nauta, where you’ll marvel at the regional produce of the Peruvian Amazon, offering an authentic glimpse into local life. You’ll return to the Aria Amazon for breakfast before disembarkation. En route to the airport, you’ll visit the Manatee Rescue Center, a crucial facility where orphaned Amazonian manatees are rehabilitated before being released back into the wild, highlighting conservation efforts in the region.
